In 2022, Korea successfully launched its homegrown space rocket, Nuri, and lunar orbiter, Danuri, into orbit. At the dawning of the New Space era, Korea is poised to join the ranks of space powerhouses. What are its strengths and challenges? How can technology and policy be aligned to drive progress? To explore these questions, the Chey Institute invited experts in space development and exploration, satellite technology, and space policy, on July 7, 2023, to discuss Korea’s strategies for leapfrogging its space capabilities. The participants included Choi Sang Hyouk (Senior Scientist, NASA Langley Research Center), Bang Hyochoong (Professor, KAIST), Kim Byung Jin (Chairman of Board, Satrec Initiative), Ahn Hyoung Joon (Team Leader, STEPI), and Cha Meeyoung (Professor, KAIST)
